Thames Water to spend extra £700m on cutting leaks

Thames Water has been given the all-clear to transform London’s network of Victorian water pipes. Industry regulator Ofwat has backed Thames releasing an extra £700m to tackle water leakage in the Capital with 112km pipeline replacement programme. At Price Review 19, the regulator conditionally granted Thames £300m to enhance the performance of its London water network subject to first meeting some set targets.

Wet weather dampens March construction growth

Despite the wettest March for nearly 40 years, construction managed to maintain output growth during the month. Output slowed to 0.2% in March, due mainly to weaker private housing and commercial building. Since the end of 2022, the private housing sector has now seen five monthly falls out of the last seven. But growth of infrastructure new work and public other new work, up 2.2% and 6.5%, respectively helped to keep the industry’s head above water.
