Insolvency experts from FRP Advisory took control of the London-based residential tower builder yesterday evening. The collapse ends weeks of speculation about the contractor which has been strangling its supply chain of payments for several months.

Developer Rightacres has got the planning thumbs up to build Wales’ tallest building in the centre of Cardiff. A 35-storey block of flats will be built at Wood Street around the city’s Central Square scheme. It will rise to 113m tall, edging above Swansea’s The Tower building at 107m. Design by Scott Brownrigg with McCann & Partners acting as M&E engineer and Jubb Consulting civil and structural engineer the project will provide 330 private rental flats.

National Highways has pulled Costain from the quartet of contractors mobilising to deliver the £1.3bn A66 Northern Trans-Pennine upgrade project. Bowmer + Kirkland has been confirmed as main contractor on a new £45.8m performance venue in Derby. Construction work starts this month on the 3,500 capacity entertainment and events venue which forms phase two of the £200m Becketwell regeneration scheme. Work is scheduled for completion in January 2025 for developer St James Securities and Peveril Securities who are the development arm of Bowmer + Kirkland and the funding and development partners for future phases of the Becketwell scheme.

The 14 kilometre bypass project seeks to improve connectivity, transport efficiency and safety for motorists. The project is expected to save motorists about 12 minutes in travel time, avoid up to 12 sets of traffic lights and reducing the number of vehicles through the city centre by about 12,000 a day.
