HMRC construction tax helpline takes 12 week holiday

Subcontractors with queries over their tax affairs have been left stranded after HMRC decided to shut its self-assessment telephone helpline for three months. The department is piloting a “seasonal model” which will direct self-assessment queries from the helpline to its digital services, including online guidance, digital assistant and webchat. The helpline closed on June 12 and is not due to reopen until September 4.

The Australian company that rescued car battery firm Britishvolt has been raided by police investigating alleged tax fraud. The Australian Federal Police swooped on the office of Scale Facilitation on Friday.
