£470m tunnel plan for Scotland’s landslip-prone A83

A mile-long debris shelter tunnel is to be built to protect vehicles from landslips on one of Scotland’s most famous tourist roads. Expected to cost around £470m to build the protectect tunnel is now the preferred option to protect vehicles from falling rocks on the Rest and Be Thankful section of the A83 in Argyll. The selection of the preferred option follows design and assessment work on five options through the Glen Croe valley.

Work stops on MAC education job

Work has stopped on a £5m education job in Birmingham being built by MAC Group after the contractor’s main Irish operation sought protection from its creditors. An Interim Examiner was appointed to fit-out and construction firm MAC -Interiors Ltd last week. MAC has offices in Birmingham, Dublin, London and Newry. Site sources told the Enquirer work has stopped on its job to build a new educational facility at the Joseph Chamberlain College site in Birmingham.
